Bourbon Balsamic Burger

Bourbon Balsamic Burger

Using Olive and Thistles Bourbon Balsamic Vinegar, this recipe will create a gourmet bourbon hamburger with rich, nuanced flavors.

Ingredients:

For the Bourbon Balsamic Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup Olive and Thistles Bourbon Balsamic Vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 clove garlic, finely minced
  • 1 small shallot, minced
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

For the Burgers:

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (choose a mix with around 20% fat for juiciness)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, finely chopped
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 gourmet burger buns, such as brioche or ciabatta
  • Optional toppings: arugula, sliced red onion, and Gorgonzola cheese

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Bourbon Balsamic Glaze:

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a small saucepan, mix the Olive and Thistles Bourbon Balsamic Vinegar, honey, garlic, and shallot.
  2. Simmer: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer. Reduce the heat and continue to simmer gently until the mixture is reduced by half and has a syrup-like consistency, about 10-15 minutes.
  3. Season: Season the glaze with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from the heat and let it cool to room temperature.

2. Make the Burger Patties:

  1. Mix Patty Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, grated Parmesan, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix gently to incorporate all ingredients without overworking the meat.
  2. Form Patties: Divide the mixture into four equal parts. Shape each part into a patty, making sure to press a dimple in the center to ensure even cooking.

3. Cook the Burgers:

  1. Preheat Grill: Heat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat.
  2. Grill Patties: Grill the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
  3. Add Cheese: If using Gorgonzola cheese, place it on the patties during the last minute of grilling to allow it to melt.

4. Assemble the Burgers:

  1. Toast Buns: Toast the buns lightly on the grill for a minute or two, until golden and crispy.
  2. Add Glaze and Toppings: Brush the cooked patties with the bourbon balsamic glaze. Place each patty on a bun bottom, then add arugula, sliced red onion, and additional glaze if desired.

Serve the burgers immediately while warm and juicy. These burgers pair beautifully with a side of sweet potato fries or a fresh salad, and are perfect with a glass of chilled bourbon cocktail to enhance the flavors.
